In this one-day class, participants learn how to manage more complex cases, including long-term care, closed fracture stabilization, open fracture reduction and repair, wound care, anesthesia, and pain management. Proof of rabies pre-exposure vaccination is required at the start of class.

    • Lab I – Dental cleaning and extraction
  • Pain Management
  • Anesthesia
  • Closed fracture stabilization techniques

    • Lab II – closed fracture practice with cadavers
  • Open fracture reduction and repair techniques

    • Lab III – open fracture practice with cadavers
  • Preparing specimens for necropsy/rabies testing

    • Lab IV – specimen preparation with cadavers

Students receive a DVD with videos demonstrating procedures covered during the workshop, graphic handouts for fracture stabilization techniques, and an instrument set.

*In the event that a student cannot attend a scheduled class, arrangements may be made to transfer the registration to a future class session.

** Please remember to bring your proof of vaccination or titer level with you to class. If you fail to provide proof of being vaccinated you will not be able to handle live bats during class (sorry, no exceptions).

This course is approved by the Texas Department of State Health Services for 8 hours of Animal Control officer continuing education, and by the American Association of Veterinary State Boards for 8 hours of continuing professional development for veterinarians and licensed veterinary technicians. The instructor, Kate Rugroden, is certified as an instructor by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE); law enforcement personnel may apply to their agency training coordinator for CE credit hours
